We like to consider ourselves up to date on the latest trends.
The other day, we were curious about what others in the industry thought were the hottest video marketing trends of the year thus far. So, we turned to the first place that most folks do just to get a sense of which way the winds were blowing:
Naturally, there were all the hype article titles like “7 HUGE video trends for 2023,” or “Top Video Trends for 2023, and Beyond,” and “Video Trends That You Cannot Ignore In 2023.” And while those titles are eye-catching, their content was… anything but… or at least, nothing we’d consider a “trend.”
Many of the “trends” we found have been around for a while:
- User Generated Content
- Live Video or Streaming
- Personalized Videos
- Behind the Scenes Videos
- Silent Video
- Social Media Videos
- Short Form Video
- Segmented Video
I mean… come on. We wrote about TikTok and personalized videos in 2020. Live Streaming in 2013… otherwise known as a decade ago.
I mean don’t get us wrong, they are trends ebb and flow, but these topics are about as inspiring as a kick to the groin. They do nothing to help you figure out what’s actually happening in video marketing today.
We understand that staying current on everything can seem like an overwhelming task, and it can be… unless you look in the right places. If you’re not sure where to look and you want to quit following mindless trends, check out our podcast that is releasing next month. We will walk you through some of the up-and-coming innovations in our field that you actually haven’t heard of before.
