National Veterans Legal Services Program

NVLSP has worked since 1980 to ensure that the government delivers benefits owed to 25 million of our nation’s veterans and active duty personnel. Increasing awareness of their cause allows NVLSP to better position themselves as the “watchdogs” of the American war fighter. As part of that effort, the nonprofit organization hosts an annual fundraiser. In 2013, NVLSP approached 522 tell the story of their highly successful legal action, Nehmer v. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – a class-action lawsuit that granted over 4 billion dollars in retroactive benefits to veterans of the Vietnam War.

As the video debuted at the annual fundraiser, we wanted to tell the often overlooked story of Vietnam veterans returning home only to battle the affects of Agent Orange. In order to connect with fundraiser attendees, we decided to focus our story on a few select veterans and their families’ struggle to cope with the effects of Agent Orange and their ongoing battle with the federal government to receive their rightful benefits.

We sent a small crew to North Carolina and Wisconsin to document the story of two Vietnam veterans. We captured in-depth interviews and b-roll imagery to help establish who they were for the audience. We also incorporated a lot of archival footage to help bring the stories of their tour in Vietnam to life.

The fundraiser was extremely successful, kickstarting the event and inspiring attendees to generate over $250,000.

Once again, you guys put together a fabulous video for our story.
