Political videos - usage on the web

Since the political atmosphere his heating up, we thought it would be a good opportunity for 522 Productions, LLC to briefly analyze the political web video environment. After all, being located near Washington, D.C. puts us right in the middle of politics and video production.
Over the past few years, web video has undoubtedly become one of the fastest growing advertising mediums. Web video is viral marketing at its best. Individuals can forward links to videos on YouTube, Google Video, etc. and embedding videos within websites/blogs has become a common practice. However, those in the public sector have been less inclined than other advertisers to adopt web video as a core component of an overall campaign strategy - until 2007 came along.
The last year has seen a great increase in the use of political video productions for the web. For example, the presidential candidates have really adopted this form of technology and have included various videos on their own campaign websites and on the video sharing sites, too.
Although the increase in web videos means we have more content available, this doesn't necessarily mean the audience is getting what it needs. Audiences view videos on the web in a passive manner - meaning, web visitors click on content that they want to view and are in search of specific information. This medium is completely different than commercials that are produced for television - television commercials are much more "in your face" and scripted. Web video content gives candidates an opportunity to portray a different side of themselves. Hopefully, candidates will take this opportunity to show us the "real person" and not the politician standing at the podium. Let's hear your story...
